When you visit this website, our hosting provider automatically collects technical information (e.g. IP address, date/time, page visited, browser used) in so-called server log files. To display current cryptocurrency prices, your browser automatically requests data from CoinGecko (CoinGecko Inc.) when the page loads, using a free "Demo" API plan. Your IP address may be transmitted to this provider in the process. This request is made directly from your browser (not via our server). More information: coingecko.com/en/privacy.
If CoinGecko is temporarily unavailable, your browser automatically falls back to Binance (api.binance.com) and, as a last resort, Coinpaprika (api.coinpaprika.com) — both free, public price APIs. For currency conversion in that fallback case, the free exchange-rate service Frankfurter.app (operated using European Central Bank reference rates) may also be requested. In all cases, your IP address may be transmitted to whichever provider is used.
News lists are no longer fetched by your browser from the news sites. A cron job on our server (Germany, ALL-INKL) regularly reads the public RSS feeds of CoinDesk, Cointelegraph, Decrypt, Bitcoin Magazine, CryptoSlate, NewsBTC, CNBC, Investing.com, Tagesschau, MarketWatch and Google News (English and German editions), filters them and stores them as files (feed-*.json, news-*.json) on our server. Your browser only loads these files from x-chains.com, so no data is sent to the news sites. To translate headlines, our server cron job sends only public headline texts to the translation services MyMemory and DeepL – no visitor data.
Only if the file on our server is temporarily unavailable does your browser fall back to fetching the feeds through RSS2JSON (rss2json.com). In that exceptional case your IP address may be transmitted to RSS2JSON and to the respective news sites. Displayed content (title, short excerpt, image) comes from the named original sources; we do not copy full texts.
As a backup price source, the public API of Binance (api.binance.com) may also be requested if CoinGecko is temporarily unavailable. The Market Sentiment section additionally requests the Fear & Greed Index from Alternative.me (api.alternative.me) and global market data from CoinGecko (/global). To display chain and protocol metrics (TVL, growth), your browser automatically requests data from DeFiLlama (api.llama.fi) when the page loads. For the Bitcoin halving countdown, the current block height is requested for free from blockchain.info. To display recommended Bitcoin transaction fees, your browser automatically requests data from mempool.space, a free, open-source Bitcoin block explorer. To display aggregate stablecoin supply figures, your browser also requests data from DeFiLlama's stablecoins.llama.fi endpoint. Your IP address may be transmitted to these providers in the process. All of these are open, free platforms that do not require registration.
These tools calculate exclusively locally in your browser. Amounts, purchase dates, quantities, CSV contents or other inputs are not sent to our server or to third parties; we do not see or store them. No network requests occur while you type or calculate.
Holding-period tracker: by default nothing is stored; entries are gone when you close or reload the page. Only if you explicitly tick “Save this list in this browser” does the tracker keep your entries in your browser’s localStorage (keys xc_hf_lots_v1 and xc_hf_save_v1) so they are there on your next visit. Even then they never leave your device. You can untick the box at any time or choose “Delete all”, which removes the saved copy. The legal basis is your consent / a service you expressly requested (Sec. 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). The tracker does no tracking.

If you enter your own holdings in the "My Portfolio" section, this information is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage (localStorage). It is never transmitted to us or to any third party. To calculate the current value of your holdings, only the general price data already fetched from CoinGecko is used — the specific amounts you hold never leave your browser.
When the home page loads, your browser directly calls further public interfaces; your IP address is transmitted to the respective provider: mempool.space (Bitcoin network fees), Frankfurter (api.frankfurter.dev, USD/EUR exchange rate), public Ethereum/layer-2 nodes (e.g. Cloudflare, LlamaNodes, PublicNode, Arbitrum, Optimism) for fee displays and Alternative.me (Fear & Greed Index). None of your inputs are transmitted.
News images: Preview images of the news items are loaded directly from the servers of the respective news source (without referrer). Your IP address is transmitted to these servers.
TradingView (chart): The price chart is only loaded after you click “Load chart”. Only then does your browser connect to TradingView servers (s3.tradingview.com); your IP address is transmitted and TradingView may use cookies or similar technologies. The legal basis is your consent by clicking. Without a click, no connection is made.
Interface translation: If a prepared text is missing for a language, your browser may fall back to the MyMemory service (api.mymemory.translated.net); only interface texts of the page and your IP address are transmitted.
In the "Essential Crypto Gear" section we link to products on Amazon (Amazon EU S.à r.l. / Amazon.de). These links carry a partner tag that lets Amazon recognise that you arrived via our site. Data is only transmitted to Amazon once you actually click such a link and leave our site — this includes your IP address, and Amazon may set its own cookies. As long as you do not click, nothing is transmitted to Amazon: we do not embed any Amazon scripts, widgets or product images that would load on page view.
